Why Driver's Desk

Setup help from someone who knows the road.

Most setup companies are run by office staff who've never held a CDL. They hand you a packet and disappear. We do it differently.

Run by a driver

I've driven Class A for 6+ years, currently nights over Donner Pass. I know what an inspection and a broker's paperwork check actually look like.

Prices posted, no markup

One flat fee. You pay government fees straight to the agencies. No factoring or insurance upsell.

Your accounts stay yours

Every filing happens in your own FMCSA, IRS and DMV accounts. We never hold your logins.

Current on 2026

FMCSA moved registration to Motus in May and UCR fees went up in October. We keep up so you don't file from an old checklist.

How we save you money

Paperwork done right costs less.

Missed deadlines, failed audits and bad habits cost owner-operators far more than our fee. Every customer gets a yearly savings checkup.

Myth: buying fuel in low-tax states lowers your fuel tax. Fact: IFTA charges tax by the miles you drive in each state, no matter where you fill up. Your quarterly return settles the difference. Shop by the pre-tax price and use a fuel discount card instead.

Insurance, shopped on time

We remind you 60 days before renewal to get fresh quotes and ask about dash cam, deductible and pay-in-full discounts.

Form 2290, not overpaid

The tax is prorated by the month your truck starts. Trucks driven 5,000 miles or less in a year owe nothing, though you still file.

Permanent trailer plates

Nevada issues permanent plates for fleet trailers, so you register once instead of every year.

The right UCR bracket

UCR is priced by truck count. We make sure you're not paying for a bigger bracket than you need.

IFTA credits back

When you prepay fuel tax in a state, that credit carries forward or can be refunded. We don't leave it sitting with the state.

No fines, no audit failures

Late filings, lapsed registrations and missing paperwork are the most expensive mistakes a new carrier makes. That's what we prevent.

About the Indiana plates you see everywhere: those are mostly big fleets like UPS, FedEx and Ryder with real operations there. Your apportioned plates have to come from the state where you actually have a place of business, and fees are split by miles anyway. Be careful with anyone selling out-of-state plates.

    About

The help I'd want if I were going independent.

I drive nights out of Reno, over Donner Pass and down 395. Getting your own authority means a dozen filings in a set order, then a calendar of renewals that never stops. Most setup companies charge for the first part and leave you alone with the second, which is where new carriers miss an IFTA deadline or get flagged in their new-entrant audit.

Driver's Desk is the help I'd want: straight answers, every form in the right order, and someone who still checks in after your authority goes active. My partner Angel handles intake and keeps every customer's calendar on track.

    Questions

    Straight answers.

Do I pay government fees to you?

No. You pay FMCSA, the IRS, the Nevada DMV and everyone else directly. Our fee covers our work only, so there's no markup on anything.

Do you file everything for me?

Right now we work side by side: we prep every form ahead of time, then walk you through each filing while you submit it from your own account. It's faster than doing it alone and keeps everything in your name. Done-for-you filing is coming in 2027.

How long until I can haul?

Usually 4–6 weeks. Most of that is FMCSA's review and protest period after you apply in Motus. Insurance and your BOC-3 have to be on file before your authority goes active.

    Is my information safe?

We never ask for your Social Security number, bank account or passwords by text. You type those straight into the official government sites during our session.

Do you work with carriers outside Nevada?

We're built for Nevada-based carriers, where we know the DMV process inside out. The federal steps are the same everywhere, so reach out if you're in another state and we'll tell you honestly whether we're a good fit.

Can you help me pick insurance or set up my taxes?

We'll explain what brokers usually require and what the rules say. Choosing coverage belongs to a licensed insurance agent, and tax strategy to a CPA. We can point you to people who work with new authorities.

    Ready to get your authority?

Text or call with where you are in the process. We answer evenings, 5–7 pm Pacific, and reply to texts within a day.
